Mayu in Quechua means river. Amano blends fibers of Royal Alpaca, Cashmere and Silk Mulberry giving an incomparable and exquisite softness and a beautiful texture. Using an artisan dyeing method inspired by the Incas, this yarn has been made using ancient techniques inherited from Andean ancestors. The colors evoke the softness of the Peruvian mountains.
Royal Alpaca is the most exclusive and finest quality of Alpaca fibers. The degree of fineness is around 16 microns, being one of the lowest existing in terms of natural fibers worldwide. (The lower the grade, the finer and softer the fiber.)
By knitting with our Baby Alpaca fibers you will obtain garments that are 3 times warmer, extremely soft, with exceptional shine and drape, much lighter and more breathable than those knitted with merino wool.
The Royal Alpaca fiber of our brands comes from Peruvian alpacas that live in the Andean highlands at more than 4000 meters high, which gives it unique characteristics.
FEATURES UNIQUE TO FIBER IN BABY ALPACA:
- It is three times warmer than merino wool.
- The alpaca fibre is soft that almost all of the sheep's wool, it is naturally soft compared to the merino wool to make it just as soft, must go through a process of softening. It is soft as cashmere but stronger and less expensive which makes it more durable.
